With reference to the joking performance that Basso records in the Reading, we clearly have a case of conflicting cultural values of the most basic sort. Some would say that this is simply a matter of cultural relativities, that White ways are just as valid as Apache ways, and that resulting misunderstandings can only be corrected by greater sensitivity in both directions? What is your opinion?

When the white man came to America and introduced themselves to the Apaches, I'm sure that the Indians were extremely offended by their gestures and mannerisms. That's why it's a huge joke to the Apaches, because they were offended by it and made to practise that way of acting, they still hold a grudge towards what the white man did, while amazingly holding onto their own proper way of conducting image and communication.
